A Brief History

The world’s first club was founded on 23 February 1905 when lawyer Paul Harris and three friends met in a small office in downtown Chicago. They named their club Rotary as they rotated their weekly meetings between each other’s offices.

Rotary flourished.

By 1922, with clubs now on six continents, the organisation’s name was changed to Rotary International.

Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland (RIBI), is a territorial unit of Rotary International. RIBI has its own governing body and constitution.
